I'm hoping someone out there has dealt with something similar if not the same thing on a laptop.

I just recently upgraded my sister's NEC Versa 4200 laptop to Windows 98SE and now the double tapping does not respond as a left click anymore.

I'm hoping it's a software problem. Maybe a hardware problem wouldn't be bad if it can be fixed. Prior to installing WIn98 I had to upgrade the RAM. Silly me, didn't know where the ram slot was so I opened it up completely and dug into the system to find something that looked like a slot. FOudn it under hte hard drive bay (duh) and then commenced to install Windows. So now the double tap function of the touch pad does not work.

Is there any hope? Clicking the button takes more effort than double tapping the pad. =)

You have to install a driver for the touchpad. Otherwise it works like a regular mouse (i.e., no tapping). Windows doesn't come with the driver, you'll have to get it from NEC's web site.
