Cool! I picked one up. Good printer! I was going to buy a Lexmark Z42 that Office Max has on clearence at their B&M for $79.99, but the NEC is faster and cheaper to run.

>>>Inkjet is suck

Yeah...you're right. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll go plop down $4000 on a color laser printer.

I could'nt find any recent driver updates for the 950C and no drivers whatsoever for w2k. Sounds like a good deal though.

joekker is correct, just went to NEC's site, and no Win2k driver support at ALL! and the latest drivers for Win98 are dated from '99. Looks like NEC has discontinued this model awhile back. A warm deal at best IMHO.

Many printer drivers are included in win98/ME/2k.

There is no driver for my printer from Panasonic, but it works fine with drivers included in win98 and win2k.

I had an NEC 660 600 dpi laser printer that was only supported in Windows 98. That's it no further releases or updates they told me. The toner was way expensive $120 per refil. I gave the printer away and bought a new HP. lol It works with 2k ME and they have refills for $47. Make sure you check these things whenever buying a printer. Toner or Inkjet alike. Or it will eat you alive$$$

You get what you pay for people! If something is this cheap then there's something wrong! 99% of the time if it's cheap the quality is also cheap or the service is cheap quality!

I and myself own several Nec Superscript, I have a 1200 with 18megs of ram. Nice, never tried under w2k but if you search under deja or google now, it's like HP, they do not want to write a few driver just because mr. gates decides to upgrade the OS, which kinda sucks.. NEC and many other company just doesn't wanna support w2k.. i don't know why but that seem to be the tone of the users around.. i never check directly but I'm still using a 1998 driver for my superscript..

1) I keep reading your post....and I STILL don't know what you said :)

2) This is a nice printer. I'm guessing they forgot to add a 1 or a 2 in front of the $59 price.

Has anyone found ink cartriges for this printer? Or do you just throw it away after the ink runs out, which I guess you could if it costs only $60 to replace....

be very careful if you have w2k.
I had an Nec SuperScript 860.
They had no win2k drivers, the company was VERY unhelpful, and they have never released them since. :|

What are you talking about? The 860 drivers are built in! They're the last one on the NEC driver list.

I'm pretty sure you could use this driver for the 950 as well.

UPDATE:

I did a check on this printer and found, while it's a great unit, the ink cartridges are nearly impossible to find. They only place I could find that sells them is NEC's own store (meaning: no discount :p ). I'm going to change my opinion to COLD DEAL.

Yeah the NEC 860 print drivers are built in to Windows 2000 too bad they don't work quite right. When ever I printed a large graphic file it would spit out some junk. Contacted NEC mulitiple times there official response we currently don't support windows 2000 on these machines please check in on our webpage for current driver updates. Oh I also tried this on the NEC 870 as well. Needless to say I got rid of these pieces of junk and bought a Windows 2000 compatible Samsung Laser printer. I'm sorry but, to get even basic print drivers to work on Windows 2000 that has been out for nearly a year just seems like it should be required. I know many companies and friends that are upgrading and this will just taint there name. I personally have had over 3 NEC Superscript printers but, after this last bungle I don't know if I will get another.

hey, mikebill. Just want to point out that you can't rely on specs for printer comparisons. Half the time they're souped up. Otherwise I'd get one of those cheap Canons.

Just my two cents.

I checked out the web and had no problem finding cartridges for the 950c for $40.

Example 950 cartridge link

My question is, even though you can find the cartridges today... on average, what should you expect to happen with cartridges prices when a printer is discontinued? Not looking for opinions but examples.

I've got an Nec 870 superscript laser and absolutely love it. I'm strongly considering the 950c color printer.
