NEC Refurb Experience

I know a lot of people are wary of refurbs, so here's a +1 for NEC's refurbished products.

Ordered a refurb 20WMGX2 (Gaming with a 5770, seems like a good fit) for about $165 USD shipped which, since seeing the final product, I'm very happy with. The monitor arrived in exactly one week from placing the order to arriving on my doorstep. It came with the power cable, a DVI cable, audio cables, and a remote for (presumably) the TV tuner. Physically, it looks impeccable. Not a single blemish or mark on it. The panel itself looks great as well. I have found one single dead pixel on the far left edge, but it's easily ignorable and won't affect anything as far as I'm concerned.

The one concern I did initially have was that, after starting up for the very first time (In my possession), I could see the 'ghost' of my desktop when I displayed an all black screen. However that problem has since completely disappeared and I would guess it's a result of the monitor simply needing to 'warm up'.

All in all, I got exactly what I wanted. A big (for me + my space constraints, especially relative to my 15inch laptop), glossy, IPS LCD without breaking the bank or forcing a video card upgrade on myself. Currently it's just up on the VGA out on my laptop, and cannot wait to have my fullblown system assembled behind it.

Great monitor you have there dark. I regret giving my two to my wife. She uses them in her office. Hopefully she doesn't read this 😛

I had the same issue with an RMA replacement, it only happens on the left side of the screen and didn't improve any. It's not overly annoying, but still, it's there. I haven't used it normally in a long time though.

They have image retention problems which always go away after awhile of non-use...

I bought one brand new, two extra which were refurbs from a member on here... my refurbs are not as accurate color wise and have small dead pixels which are impossible to notice.. aside from that they are the same! im so glad i picked up more

Mine has 1 dead pixel near the corner. They're so tiny though. It's a good display, but the size just doesn't cut it for me anymore (after using a 32" HDTV for awhile). Interested in a 24"ish 1920x1080 now.

Mine got an oozing smudge at the top just after the warranty ran out. >:| At least my replacement U2410 is on the way.

NEC has stated levels of pixel issues for each class of display. My 90 series is the most strict.

I ordered a refurb 2490WUXi and it had 2 bad pixels side by side. They sent out a new one the same day I called about it.

The new one was perfect.
