NEC Opticlear LCD Monitor Questions

Was at Fry's looking at LCD's.

A coupe of the NEC monitors really jumped out at me.

They were in the "Opticlear" line. They have the look of a "glass" face to them.

The specs on one in particular, the 90GX2, a 19", says more than 16 million colors. I guessing this is a 6 bit panel ? The NEC web didn't clear it up.

Any input on these monitors ?

Thanks

Yeah, the 90GX2 is 6-bit. It's fairly expensive for a 19" monitor, but that coating really puts it in a different class from most other LCDs.

yeah. the 70 and 90gx2 are 6bit. the 20wmgx2 is 8bit . i actually have the 20wmgx2 and a 1770gx (old version of the 70gx2). i dont think the 6bit color is a problem, but the coating really does put it in a different class.

the 90gx2 is pretty expensive thuogh, like $450 i believe, might as well spend the extra $100 or so at pagecomputers.com and get the 20wmgx2 (which also has the added benefit of being a tv)

No wai...

Future Shop in Canada has it for $329.99 CND.
There's no way it's $450 USD.

BTW, 6-bit or not, the 90GX2 is the best looking 19" display in existence :D

ah i guess its about $350 in the states.

i just know the list price is probably something like $499. when i bought my 1770gx used on ebay (for about $100 off list) it was still going for $350 and list was $399 (for a 17!)

i just sort of assumed the 19 was still in the 400 range since its new. theres gonna be a new 90gx2 pro soon. 2ms refresh, and otherwise the same.

Regular price, it was not on sale.

the opticlear monitors almost never go on sale.

the only time the opticlears were on sale was when the GX was being replaced by the GX2. that was around when i got my original 1770gx

yeah its the 90gx2 pro , 70 gx2 pro and the 20wmgx2pro.

from the specs everything is the same on the 20, and the 19 and 17 are down to 2ms refresh instead of 4ms. i dont think its much of a "new version" i think if it were really a lot better they'd make it the GX3 . the press release did not say anythinga bout a price cut, i would doubt it as the gx series is pretty premium and people still buy it.
