I'm about to grab one of these....unless there is a good reason not to....or is there something better?

I have the 3500a and I'm very happy with it. No coasters yet and it overburns on better quality media.

i just bought this burner this week fromt he egg( the silver nec one)
i have not updated to the latest firmware but its having problems burning audio cds on this cheap media.
ive had about ten coasters so far out of 18 discs

ive burned 8 dvds so far and everything has gone flawless with dvd-shrink, then again i think its a problem with nero and not the burner itself, for the audio cds

this was my previous burner and that burner was awesome
i will try updating the firmware because this should be a top notch burner
just sharing my experiences to the OP

I have just ordered one for my HTPC as well. Why is it so important to update the firmware on the 3520a's.

THe only thing i have heard about this is that it is THE DVD Burner drive to have.
