Sorry I am a hardware newb. 😱

I picked up this OEM drive at newegg and some 8x legacy dvdr+ discs.

Ok so this might obviously be my problem, but I didn't know that the drive wouldn't come with the connectors I needed to hook it up to my mobo, so I just used the wires that were in my old DVD/CDRW combo drive.

My 4.4 gig dvds are taking 30 minutes to burn off my hard-drive at 12x. I tried burning them at 8x and I get the same exact speed.

Shouldn't I be getting at least 8x?

What are the best discs I can buy for this drive? ie burn at at least 8x consistently at a good price. Is my problem the connection I am using to the motherboard?

Here's my system: p4 1.4 / 256k ram / windows 2k pro

Sorry I'm ignorant but I need help... :frown:

ack, I figured it out

I did not have DMA enabled, now I am getting 12x out of these.

Still though, any media recommendations? Anything burn at 16x?
