I've had this DVD burner for about two years now (NEC ND-3500A as in the title), haven't really had any problems with it until recently, maybe the past few months.
Basically, I can find a lot of discs that the drive refuses to recognize - either it doesn't recognize that a disc is in the drive at all (spinning up constantly or sometimes even saying "The disc structure is corrupted and unreadable"), or it says that a blank disc is in the drive. Some of these discs are even ones that I burned on the very same drive in the past two years that I've had it. They weren't low quality discs either, Fuji Made in Japan DVD+R's.
In any case, every disc I've found so far that doesn't work in my burner, seems to read just fine in my other drive (Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM of some sort; specific specs are in my sig).
Some discs seem to read in the burner (NEC) without issues though, my UT2004 DVD (pressed) and a few more recently-burned DVD's to be specific. From the limited testing I've done though, it seems that any of my burned DVD's older than a few months won't read. 😕
So, given that all of these discs (including the ones that don't work on the burner) work just fine in the reader, is my burner toast at this point? I'm not really sure how a drive would just crap out and read some discs but not others (when the discs themselves are fine), but I guess DVD burners are pretty cheap these days if I have to replace it...
(For what it's worth, apparently my brother used to have the same or a similar NEC drive and had similar issues, so he tells me...)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or explanations. 🙂
