NEC ND-3500A burn speeds? <RESOLVED?>

So, I took advantage of the $68 newegg deal, mostly because my DVD-ROM died, and the 3500A arrived today. OEM package, installed it, works beautifully.. until I realize Nero(And Alcohol 120..) believe it to be a 32X max CD-R drive.. Not the 48X promised on newegg's and NEC(UK)'s sites.

I downloaded the latest firmware from cdfreaks(2.18), and searched their forums, nothing close to this issue comes up.

Does anyone have ANY clues here?

I've upgraded nero to 6.6.(Whatever the current version is today.)

Updated my bios. I'm running the most recent nvidia nForce drivers.. (5.10)

Any help would be appreciated!

I unfortunately have not been able to test DVD burning, as I don't own any DVD-Rs yet.

Edit:

Ok.. so I think I figured it out, and I'm ready to hit myself.

When you insert a disk that the drive believs has a max speed below the drive's max.. it starts reporting it's max to be the disk's max.

And my '48x' CDs are apparently only good for 32X in this drive.. so when I insert one.. the drive starts reporting 32X max burn speed.

Fucking silly if you ask me, but it had me worried.

I ended up rebooting into linux and trying to force a burn at 48x in k3b, but it ended up detecting that 'either the drive or the media does not support 48x'
