What I'm wondering is if I should flash new firmware. I'm not terribly concerned about region free (but I suppose it's not a bad idea), but I'd like to remove Rip Lock, which they say reduces rip speeds to 2x. What I've read suggests that the Rip Lock will be in effect UNLESS you flash. There's 3 versions of firmware posted at http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND2510A, and it doesn't suggest which to use, and each version contains 3 different .BIN you can flash, being "original" FW, Rip Lock removed and Riplock removed & region free (RPC1).
I'd like some feedback from others with the 2510a before messing with any of this firmware, however. I'm really a DVD burning newbie and figure I shouldn't jump into this stuff without having a good look.
Installed my new 2510a the other day but haven't tried to burn anything yet. Week ago I picked up a spindle of 25 unmarked 8x DVD+R ($29), not too bad, I guess for 8x media. I really like the vendor so I figure they like and will stand by what they sell.
