NEC ND-2510a - Is there only one bitsetting firmware?

The only one I know about is Herrie's 1.07 v2 Dual Layer Bitsetting Beta 5. Is this the only one? I tried to install it today but got an error:

Target NEC ND-2500A is not found correctly

I was using the Windows version, haven't tried the DOS version. This firmware looks as easy as can be to install - it comes in the form of a RAR compressed file, so you need WinRaR to decompress it, but you get an exe and you just run the thing, by all appearances.

Anyway, I'm authoring some video DVDs and want maximum compatibility, so I'd like a bitsetting firmware. Is this it? If so, how can I install it? Thanks.

From the looks from that link, and the error you got, it appears that that is for the 2500A not the 2510A...could be your problem.

Just a guess, btw.

I think there must be a workaround. I've seen posts indicating that people with 2510a's are flashing that firmware. The drives are seen as 2500a after the flash, but that appears to be of no practical consequence. In fact, internally, the drives are identical. It's probable that the manufacturers of the drives test the 2510a's componentry more stringently to assure compliance with the demands of dual layer burning. That's the thought.

Herrie, according to a post I read today (written about a month ago) intends to write a firmware version that's designed to be used by both the 2500a and 2510a, but AFAIK that's in the future at this point.

you need to flash it w/ a dos bootup disk. The only problem w/ the beta 5 firmware is that it was originally designed for flashing 2500 drives, so a 2510 will be reported as a 2500 afterwards. The functions are the same though.

Presumably it confers DL support. See the link in the OP. It's a whole issue for people thinking of buying the two drives - whether to spend the extra $20 for the assurance from NEC that the drive will work with DL media. The 2500a flashed with this FW is said to work with DL media.
