I have an NEC LXi laptop running Win98SE and Versa III swap bays.

Bought a DVD drive and thought I could just put it in and it would work-looks like a need a 'DVD decoder' or the like-is that correct?

Any idea where I would get the decoder? Can't seem to find it anywhere online after extensive looking.

Any help greatly appreicated.

Thanks
Matt

should only need "decoder" software, IE: any dvd software like powerdvd. They install a software based decoder for DVD's. Hardware decoders are optional and IMO, overrated. I'm assuming you are referring to the error message you would get trying to play a dvd in media player or the like. I've used a pcmcia dvd player to play dvd's on a laptop just fine by installing only the dvd drivers. Make sure though that windows recognizes it as a dvd player. -TAL
