NEC LCD2690WUXi2 ... user opinions

I intend to upgrade my old lcd monitor and I like this NEC.

I´ve read some reviews but they are too professional: a lot of gamma, delta, gamut ..input lag... sRGRb ....

So I would like to know the opinion of the owners. I´d use it basically for intenet, multimedia and only one game, Flight Simulator. My questions are:

- is the visual quality similar to a CRT?
- dead pixels?
- any backlight bleeding?

By the way, when the monitor is off, is the colour of the screen blue or black?. I have seen some pictures showing the blue colour. It seems odd.

Thanks a lot. A monitor is something you don't buy everyday, especially this pricy one. I was waiting for an OLED one, but I think that we´will have to wait a few years for that.

Unless money isn't a concern for you, I would highly suggest getting a "consumer grade" monitor rather than a professional grade one. Monitors like that are built specifically for people that do photo work on their computer, and thus need "perfect" color accuracy. And the price compensates for that feature.

There are much, MUCH cheaper monitors that are still very good when it comes to color accuracy and overall picture quality. Any good IPS panel should be perfect for your needs.

If 23" and 1920x1080 (rather than 1920x1200) suits your style, I would suggest the NEC EA231WMi. The street price is only $300-350, and it uses a cheaper E-IPS panel. The colors on this thing are still extremely vivid, there's little or no blacklight bleeding, and the panel is very uniform to my eye. Colors are decently accurate (a little bit cool), but I've only calibrated it by eye. In short, it easily blows my $600 Dell 2408WFP out of the water, and then some.

There's a great thread over at [H]ard|Forum with tons of user reviews. There are plenty of complaints about blacklight bleeding, panel uniformity, etc., but unless you demand absolute perfection (and in that case, definitely spend $1000+), it should be perfectly fine. The complaints are no where near as bad as those complaining about the Dell U2410.

Speaking of which, another good option to consider may be the Dell U2710, or the new HP IPS panel monitors that just came out. Look for reviews of those as well.
