NEC LCD1760V, LCD1760NX or others?

After searching through this forum, it seems that NEC LCD1760V and LCD1760NX are 2 of the most popular models, what're the differences between them, apart from that LCD1760NX has a DVI input?

Is DVI worth it for the USD26 extra (local price in HK)? I don't currently own a display card with a DVI port but will probably get one this summer.

Are there other recommendations for a 17"? It'll be mainly used for games and internet surfing or other office applications. Home use. 😀

I'd definitely recommend the 1760NX -- afaik, the only diff is the added DVI. But, it IS worth the extra USD26. You'll notice clearer text, sharper images. I use the 1760NX myself and noticed a huge diff going from DVI on my (now dead 🙁 , see sig) radeon 9700 pro to analog VGA on a GF4 MX 🙁 You'll have to see for yourself if you don't believe me.

btw, where did you find the 17" NEC LCD in HK? Most places I went to were sold out...
 
NECs are becoming very rare it seems. I was at Centralfield over the weekend and my friend wanted to buy the NEC 1560NX. No stock. Asked about the NEC 1760's, no stock either. If you find one in person, snatch it asap 🙂 It's a great monitor. (I got mine from centralfield)

We actually saw that 3 dead pixel replacement policy firsthand. Friend ended up choosing a cheap ($2880) CMV 17". Unknowingly (I take blame for this) he paid for it first and only after did I remember to test the monitor for dead pixels. So we take it out and what do you know? There were two dead @#%@# pixels on there. And seeing how its only 2 the shop refused of course to replace it with another, now that they had their $$$. :|

Ended up paying a couple hundred more and got a Topcon...
 
Not really, it's cheaper than Sony X or HX series, Samsung T series (earlier price), Viewsonic P series (earlier price).

Comparing the spec, warranty (5 years now), quality, place of origin (made in Japan), etc to other major brands, Eizo is the best buy and best value.

If you want something at NEC 1760NX price level, get Philips.
NEC's warranty is very poor. Philips' is much better.

Topcon, Proview, NPS, you can ignore them.

I'd only suggest friends to buy either Eizo or Philips at this moment.
 
i own two LCD1760NX models and a LCD1760V, I LOVE THEM. All three are exactly the same aside from the DVI input. I have the two NX side by side,one is DVI, one is VGA. There is a VERY noticable difference in quality. If you intend to buy this LCD,get a NX, and make sure you also have a DVI graphics card. It doesn't come with DVI cables either,so buy them also.

I wasn't expecting much switching from CRTs my whole life, these LCDs have made it very easy on me. Well worth the money.
 
3 years parts, labor and backlight isn't enough of a warranty for you?

Yes, Eizo monitors have very good reputation, but I think the L567 you've mentioned is a bit too expensive, near HK$5000 you see.

Oh, how bad is NEC's warranty? I'm also looking at Viewsonic VG710b/s or VP171b/s, they have 3 years on-site warranty, incl. parts and labour.

For Philips, which 17" do you recommend?

He's referring to local Hong Kong warranty policies I think.
 
L567 is "Available in Europe/Asia/Oceania/Africa only".
Most high-end computer stuff is not available to the US market.
You have the chance to buy the best stuff, go for it.
And you're not paying premium on Eizo, you're actually paying about the same price as Sony or Samsung.

Eizo is the best - 5 years labour and parts, 3 years on backlight and panel, within 30,000 hours usage. The dealer Lasertech provides 3 years on-site service.

NEC is bad bad bad - 3 years labour and parts, 1 year on backlight. No on-site service.

Philips is pretty good - 3 years labour and parts and backlight, 2 years on-site service by Philips.

Sony is ok - 3 years labour, 2 years parts and backlight, 3 years on-site service by Sony.

Viewsonic is also good - 3 years labour, parts and backlight, 3 years on-site service by the dealer Hornington.

Sharp is the worst - no warranty on backlight.

Philips 170B4 or Sony X73 or Viewsonic VG710, all have DVI, at $3300-3400 price range, I'd suggest these 3 for budget buy.
Sony HX73 or Viewsonic VP171 is at $4000-4100 price range. I'd not suggest these 2.
If you want to pay over $4000, get the best - Eizo L567 at $4850.

The price of cheap 17" has been upped a lot, Philips 170B4 was $2990 before xmas.

NEC's quality has been going down, bought 3 NEC 1550M in 2002, that model is excellent.
Later in 2003 bought the new 1560NX, just used 2 days, and it burn out.
In 2003, also bought Philips 150S3, 150S4, 170S4, all are good.
Also bought HP L1502, it's exceptional deal, HP gives 3 years labour, parts, backlight, on-site warranty on this business model series.

Wow that's REALLY unlucky. I've had two 1760NX's since September and not a single problem

What are the response times on these? 16ms?
 
Viewsonic VG710 is 16ms, similar to VP171.
Sony X73 is 16ms too. (Only X series is made in Korea; S, HS, HX series are made in China).
Philips uses own LG-Philips panel (no info on the response time, should be 20ms, but it says to be 16.7M color).
 
i know but i did some searching and NEC seems to only have one set of warranties for everything. might be due to the fact that i can't read chinese :\
