So far I like the NEC the best. And at Dell it is also about $30 cheaper. But does the NEC hav less color then the Planar? like 16.6 vs 16.7?

newegg had all great user reviews on the NEC, more so then the Planar. So I think I'll get the NEC. But id like to know what you guys thought first.

Thanks!

Both are 16.2M.
Dell copied the spec from Planar, while Planar lists it as 16.7M incorrectly.

Get Planar for better warranty.

Dont have exp with the Planar, but I can say I have been very pleased with the 1760NX. The Naviset software is really nice as well.

If they're 16ms panels, which I think they are, then both are probably really ~18bit color, which approximates 24bit color by dithering. Not that you'd notice if your main goal is gaming, but now you know.

Yes, keep in mind Planar's two-day advanced replacement, which sounds good. Check MonitorsDirect to see if you can compare both of these, as that site does a great job of showing you each LCD's warranty coverage and defective pixels guarantee.

Price-wise, the Planar includes a DVI cable, better replacement warranty, pivot stand, and integrated speakers (such that they are). If you don't mind the former and don't care about the latter then the NEC is at least as good if not better. But, in my opine the best is the ViewSonic VP171b/s and is the one I chose. Dithering on such panels is an accurate description I suppose but makes one think of lower quality as when an image is compressed or color reduced. Interpolation, on the other hand, does not have such a negative connotation so may be a better description. In any case, the colors are rapidly switched to produce the same effect as 16.2M (which in turn is not discernable from 16.7M). We don't lament over the technology of CRT scanning or motion pictures so long as the desired effect is acheived so I say the color "controversy" is a red herring, especially as there is no alternative if you want a fast panel.
