I traded my external for an internal 100mb zip drive...Here is my problem.. Dos finds it and I can transfer files in dos mode, however windows found it and immediately started building a driver database and then subsequently froze and as long as I have zip drive plugged in freezes upon desktop setup...It only get so far as to load systray, explorer, and ati multimedia..I usually remember a few more.
Here is my setup:
Tbird 750@840 w/ Biostar M7vkb mobo with 4.28 final via drivers.
Os is windows 98 first edition
Primary master HDD
Primary slave NEC zip ( it finds it as PIO mode 0, but works in dos.HMMM)
Secondary master CD-RW
Secondar slave DVD-ROM
I unplugged a Kenwood 42x to temporarily test it because I haven't installed ata100 controller that will take HDD off the ide channels. I know it is the nec zip because if I unhook it and put the cd-rom back I have no problems...However I did notice if I unplugged zip drive and did not replace cd-rom still had problem.
Is there sometthing I need to clear? I have it at slave has other peeps had problems as a slave? Does 4.29 via 4 in 1 drivers fix anything? Does fisrt edition win98 have known problems ( I don't know but work setup is fine with win98 FE, however it is a master there)? Should I install tools for device first then install in case windows is building incorrect driver database for it? It would be nice if I could get into windows to either self detect or install drivers of my own.
I have the jumper set to mid jumper which I believe is the slave jumper...no markings showing...
Any other questions you have ask...
Ps..also went into safe mode and didn't see anything out of the normal...It did however still show Kenwood, but it seems to show all sort of devices that have been since removed...
