I just put in my NEC DVD drive, it is IDE and I set it as the slave in the loop. It has power and is connected. I can open and close the drive and the disk spins, but it does not show up in my computer or in the BIOS as the slave in the loop. I see something in the Device Manager, but it doesn't say NEC, but on closer examination it says DVD/CDROM drive. Should I uninstall the driver on this thing and see what happens?
If you need details, in the Device Manager it says:

Device Type: DVD/CD-ROM drives
Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives)
Location: Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0.

Thanks in advance.

Does it show up correctly in the POST? If not, then you probably accidentally installed it incorrectly (jumper one place too far) or its stock firmware is messed up.

But, you say it shows up in device manager? Try this, it has fixed my problem of vanishing DVD drivers in the past (when it showed up just as a yellow mark in the device manager):

The drive worked before, but I switched it out for a couple months. Now that I need it again I put it back in. I'll try that fix you suggested in a bit. Thanks.
