Samsung 900NF, it's based on the same tube as the NEC (mitsubishi diamondtron), but I think it has better specs.

Odin30, did you compare your FE950 to other 19" monitors when you bought it? If so, why did you choose the NEC over other brands? Also, is there anything about the NEC that you don't like?
Thanks

I have a Viewsonic 19" PF795 flat screen. It is the PF790's big brother and I got it for the same price from Onvia 8 months ago. I see Viewsonic get slamed a lot here but I can testify mine is SUPURB in every way. At high resolutions of 1024 x 768 and over 100mzh all my games crystal sharp and the color is nice, that is where the PF795 shines over the PF790. Please also consider that your video card will influence greatly any monitor. A low performance card will keep the monitor from doing its best. I'm running mine with a GeForce DDR...NV20 later I hope.

Also consider for a little bit more a 19", the extra real estate makes a BIG difference.

I can recomend Viewsonic. I'm very pleased with mine with everything I do.

(pasted from another question about Viewsonic, I gave in this forum)

NEC FE950 19" monitor is on sale at Staples for $350, (after $100 MIR) effective to the end of the week, 2/10/01. Combine that with any of the various $30 Staples discounts to bring the total to $320. I went to the local B&M Staples and received an instant $100 rebate since they couldn't locate the MIR form. They also subtracted the $130 before applying the tax so I saved an additional $10 and change.

I was shopping in the $300-400 range and was looking at the Samsung 955DF and the 955SL (which includes Monsoon 500 speakers -- @ Outpost.com). Dell.com has a 19" (Samsung) Samtron 95P+ for $205. Samsung has $30 rebates on 5 of their monitors.

I think The NEC monitor is better looking (the housing) than the 955DF. Would've preferred less visible control buttons (like drop down controls) and find the lighted "MultiSync" lettering above those controls distracting. Wonderful picture quality especially compared to my old Iiyama 17" monitor. Have you checked out the specs and acutally compared the visual quality of some monitors? How much did you want to spend?

I think I will go with the Samsung 900NF because a lot of people here recommended it. The lowest price I can find is $384 +$32 shipping -$30 rebate, so about $386 in the end.

Thank you for all of your replies.
