NEC DVD player doesn't work

Hi, I've had my PC for a few months but have now just tried to play a DVD for the first time. The drive works fine, but interactual player gives me a message regarding something about my decoder not being installed.

The model number is an NEC 2500 DVD RW. (forget the format). Win media player doesn't work either.

I have the IDE cable connected and the drive works with regular cd's .... can someone help me?

You need to install either a DVD Player program such as PowerDVD, or add a decoder to Windows Media Player. Link to Article.

btw, those programs you listed cost $$. Is there any other free player that you guys recommend?

Zoom Player

RealPlayer ... if you can put up with all their other $hit, it does play DVDs.
