NEC DiamondPro 930SB vs. ViewSonic G90fB

My old ViewSonic P95f+ finally kicked the bucket a couple weeks back (it went from odd tint changes over several months' time to finally dying completely) and it's about time to order a replacement to hold me over until I build an entirely new system. As such I'm in the market for a new 19" CRT, but finding decent reviews nowadays is getting rather difficult with all of the LCDs on the market.

My first inclination was to go with another ViewSonic product since I was fairly happy with my previous purchase, but after a bit of research here on the forums it seems like a lot of people are very fond of NEC's DiamondPro line as well. Both are fairly inexpensive; I'm simply looking for a bit of input as to which is the overall better monitor.

Between the 930SB and the G90fB, which would you choose? Is there another brand/model that stands head and shoulders above these two that won't set me back $500? I don't need support for super-high resolutions -- I run Windows at 1280x1024 and do most of my gaming in the 1024x768 to 1152x864 range.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or input. :)

I not used neither of those but from what i have heard the 930SB is one of the greatest 19" monitors ever created.

G90f is a shadowmask screen. It's suited more for graphics design as shadowmasks have more accurate colors. I'd get the 930SB in a heartbeat. Much brighter image, vibrant colors, deeper blacks, better contrast. Much more suited for games and multimedia.
The viewsonic equivalent of the 930SB is the P90f+. I'm actually pretty sure they are identical screens, but just rebadged as they both use the same mitsubishi diamondtron tube.

If the G90f uses a shadowmask then i would choose the 930SB, i think aperture grille tubes are far superior.

Just make sure you get one that was manufactured before 2004 just to be safe (930SB that is). Made in Japan is also preferable.

The 930SB is the obvious choice as other have said, but that is assuming you can still find one.

I think all of them might be pre-2004. They 930SB was strangely put out of production long before before the 2070SB and other NEC/Mitsu AG CRTs.

Actually, the last 930SB I bought was manufactured in May 2004.

930SB if you can get one. I doubt they are made anymore though as NEC/Mitzu stopped all AG CRT production in DEC04 according to my contact at NEC.

I just wanted to drop back in and thank everyone for their responses. I'll definitely pick up the 930SB if I can get my hands on one.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the clarifying that. I guess they weren't phased out as early as I thought.

There were actually some January '05 models too. I think they stopped selling/taking orders for them in December but ran production a bit longer for RMA stock or something. (and I wish they hadn't, as those last ones are all garbage)
