NEC burner (3450?) doesn't burn CD-Rs or play audio CDs anymore

I still have no issues burning or reading DVDs...but all of a sudden, CD and CD-R capabilities are shot.

I'm going to try flashing the firmware, but does anybody have any suggestions before I do?
