NEC 3550A tray doesn't open/eject /Solved:PSU related

Hello,

I have NEC 3550A dual dvd burner. Fr some reason the drive tray will not open or eject. I tried to open it in windows and while booting up with no luck. Windows and bios recognise the drive just fine.

Pressing the open button will turn the light on the drive on but nothing happens.

I tried using a scrw driver to force it (lightly) to open with no success. Unless i am tying at the wrong place.

I would appreciate any help

Thanks

Try making sure your power connector is inserted right, I know it sounds stupid but I had a problem with one and for some reason the whole square plug into round hole theory came into play(i know that its not square or round)
another thing is to totally unplug it let windows boot. Shut down. Then plug it all back in and turn your comp back on. Worked for me one time and I got 5 of these drives.

Never just pry it open, instead, stick a paper clip into the small hole in the front to get it open.

Absolutely the only correct reccomendation for opening a optical drive try that will not open on its own. "Samari"...remember, this is a piece of delicate electronic equipment. Using screwdrives to force or pry it open is not the order of the day!!

I should have mentioned that i already tried using a clip to push in the hole (sounds nasty)

under closer inspection, i opened the drive and start hearing a whine noise like the motor is not working to open and close the tray. This made me feel that either the powersupply is not giving enough power or the motor actually not working any more.

I tried a diffirent a power supply and it worked fine!!

so thanks for all who suggested a solution, god bless 🙂
