Havent used the DVD drive in a month and when I put a DVD in yesterday, it suddenly can't read anything..

BIOS & Windows shows the drive perfectly, but when I close the DVD drive (with or without a DVD inside), it reads and reads and reads for 30 seconds and then nothing happens....I already tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables but something strange is going on!

try a firmware update. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. Usually the dvd or cd laser goes bad.

I had a 3550 in my media center to play DVD movies and it started to have a really hard time reading disks. I just purchased a Pioneer drive and I love it, mostly because of how quiet it is compared to the NEC.

My 3540 in my main computer is still working great though.
