I recently purchased the NEC ND-3550A DVD drive from Newegg to replace an aging one. After the installation, I upgraded the firmware to v1.06, following the instructions on the NEC website. From then, I've been experiencing reboots in the middle of running various programs (World of Warcraft, Spybot S&D, IE), and these are often followed up by successive reboots at start-up.

After disabling automatic reboots, I got the following error messages:

DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, after crashing while running a program, and
PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AGREA, during start-up.

I initially had a CD drive connected as a secondary IDE slave drive, with this new one as the master drive. I've since removed the CD drive, and the one time I tried disconnecting the cables from the new DVD drive still resulted in a reboot (I've not retried it since).

The computer is running Windows XP home edition, SP2.

I would greatly appreciate any advice for resolving this problem.

You may want to try rebuilding your PAGEFILE.

Go to:

System Properties \ Advanced \ Performance \ Settings \ Advanced \ Virtual Memory
click the 'Change' tab and tick "No paging file", then 'Set'

Reboot.

Return to the above and recreate your pagefile (choosing either "System managed size" or "Custom")
