I just got this drive and I was wondering if anyone's ever noticed that the tray takes a bit more force to close when pushing it compared to other drives in general. Whenever I push mine lightly it seems to just move as far as I'd push, without the motor kicking in to close the drive. It takes a bit more force to close it. First time I've had a drive like that. I know this is kind of a strange thing to dwell on, but it's kind of bugging me, lol.

Yeah, I always just press the button. I heard that the more you push it, the more it wears out, and the faster it breaks.

button ftw (I have noticed my 3520 is a bit hard to get closing if you push the tray... which I've done a few times)

The button isn't there for you to carress when you're burning. Use it.

FWIW, the drawer does take a bit more effort than other drives I've owned. Take the advice of those above and use the button.

Haha. Yeah, I use the button. I don't even think they were designed to be closed by pushing it. It might be some kind of security feature built-in, but not intended to be used all the time.

I've been closing cdroms the "wrong way" for years. no mechanism has ever broken on me. Most likey the drive technology will become outdated by the time you break it by pushing it.

almach's pretty much right...the only time i've ever heard of a drive breaking is when it was open and somebody ran into it, knocking it off the tracks/breaking components.

however, my 3540 does seem to take some effort to close it..so take that as a message to use the button. it's not that hard, and garuntees your product to last longer.

Well, I guess it's fairly obvious that the button is the proper way to close it. I've just, like almach, have been doing it the other way out of pure habit. I noticed it the moment I put in the drive and I got curious if other 3540a owners noticed it as well. Good to know mine's of the same lot.
