I recently purchased an NEC-3540 burner. I have it installed correctly as a master on a msi-k8n neo2 platinium board with the nforce 3 ultra chipset. During windows boot, as soon as the loading screen appears the progress bar freezes for about 15 seconds after which normal boot continues. This began after i installed the new dvd drive. The drive works great in windows and burns disks fine. I am lead to believe that this is a conflict with the ide controller on the motherboard and the dvd-burner. I booted up linux and right after it inililized the dvd-burner the boot process would freeze and the message would be printed that said "Bug: Soft lockup detected on CPU:0" and then after about 15 seconds everything would work again. I have the newest bios for my motherboard and as far as i know there are no firmware upgrades for the drive. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks

Try another IDE cable, and also try it on the other IDE port. Do you have an adequate power supply?
