NEC 3520a really loud?

Does anyone else notice their NEC 3520a is really loud when reading certain CDs? I am in the process of ripping my entire CD collection (~500 CDs) and every 20th CD causes the 3520a to make a really loud rev'ing noise.

UPDATE 4/25: Ok. So my ripping days have ceased and I have started to watch DVDs on this drive but the noise is outrageous. The drive makes a loud rhythmic humming noise and whenever I insert a DVD. CDs make a constant humming noise but it isn't nearly as loud. I checked Nero DriveSpeed and the CDs are spinning at 32x but the DVDs are only spinning at 5x. If I change the drive speed to 1x when playing a DVD the noise goes away. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, only sometimes though.
I assume its only when its having a bit of trouble reading the disc it spins faster, because VERY RARELY does mine do it.

I can't figure it out. The discs are all "clean" and don't have any scratches but they repeatedly cause the drive to spin very fast. It spins so fast I can feel the vibration of the drive on the ground next to the case.

I've got a 3500A, and its really loud, whenever it first spins up a disc its really noticable. Maybe its due to vibration on the inside of the case itself, but its faster than any other drive i've owned, so I guess I can live with it.

Have you flashed the BIOS on your DVD burner since getting it? I know there are some out there that increase rip and burn speeds, but sometimes at the expense of removing the ability of the DVD drive to play back DVD's slower, and thus more quietly. Probably not your issue, but just thought I'd throw that out there, just in case.

Actually it looks like the problem is my CoolerMaster WaveMaster. The left side door is what is vibrating. If I push the door inwards (towards the chassis) the sound goes away. Damn, looks like I have to open her up again.
