seems like at cdfreaks they like the benq, but at AT, people like the NEC.
so now.. benq 1620 or nec 3520, or worth paying extra and waiting for the pioneer?
NewEgg certainly looks like they have the Pioneer in stock to me. It's $52.99 with shipping:

I guess it's up to you whether it's worth $6 more than the NEC 3520. That probably mostly depends on whether or not you rip a lot of DVD movies. Also, if you're just going to upgrade again the the next 6 months to a year, it probably doesn't matter that the Pioneer is faster at DL burning.
What do you mean they like the BenQ at CDFreaks? They have the same reviews as CDRLabs.com. Those reviews make it quite clear that the BenQ has about the same specs as the NEC, but its burn quality is significantly worse than the NEC or Pioneer. The BenQ rips DVD movies as fast as the Pioneer, but I don't think that makes up for the burn quality problems.
Nothing wrong with the NEC, but if I were buying a new burner, I'd get the Pioneer or wait for the NEC 3540 to become available. The NEC 3540 is already available in the UK, and it has similar features to the Pioneer 109.
You can get good information about these drives just looking at the CDRLabs.com reviews. It's more objective than anything you'll find here.
