NEC 3520

My NEC 3520 is on it's way (silver edition) but I was looking over the seek times and at 140ms for DVDs and 120ms for CDs I wasn't too impressed.

Is this drive good enough to install and play DVD and CD games and use as main CD/DVD drive?

I know a ton of you guys have this drive, so I am looking for personal experiences!

It better be! I just ordered an ND-3520A (black) myself. However, I'm sure someone will come along here and pee in our respective picnic baskets by saying this drive sucks. 😛

I have the 3250A and it works fine. I've installed several games on DVD (HalfLife2:CE) and CD (Guild wars).. I've also watched several DVDs (Girl Next Door, Band of Brothers). No issues with anything. It'll be fine.

Its fine, the initial load of a cd/dvd might take a smidge more time than other drives but once its "loaded" it works just the same.

I also just ordered the NEC ND-3520A(silver) for my grandpa and will be installing it when I see him this week. I am glad to see so many of you like them. I am thinkg about getting one myself.
It should be pretty easy to put in right? I think he has an emachines.

As long as his system has a free 5.25" bay and a free IDE slot, it should be pretty easy. 🙂

He has a cd-rw and a dvd player in there right now so he is going to have to take one out. After taking it out all I will need to to is put the cable into where I took the other one out, correct? Then all that will need to be done is install the drivers? I bought a retail instead of OEM at newegg so it will come with the cables and drivers right?
thanks for they help

n/m

the retail version should have everything you need but you might as well continue to use the dvd player's cable since it already attached. drivers may not be needed if you have an updated OS.
