well i just got my nec 3500a drive and wanted to see if it was working so i put in lilo and stitch and nothing comes up when i put it in. it is not recognized when i look in my computer. i take it out, put it in my lite on dvd rom and it sees it fine. yes, this is the real dvd that i own. anyone else have this problem? the firmware has been updated and it is 2.18

Do you see the drive in Device Manager? If yes, try removing it from DevMgr and reboot to let it be redetected. Have you updated your DVD playing software to look for your new drive as default? Have you updated your ASPI layer software lately (yes, I know it says for SCSI, but humor me)? Get ASPI from Ahead/Nero if you're using Nero or from Adaptec.com (which should work with anything but especially Roxio). Are all your chipset drivers up to date?

Zepper,

this isn't my thread, but the aspi question made me think. When looking using Nero infotool it shows Nero ASPI installed, but no system ASPI installed. Is that the way it should be or do I need to have a system ASPI installed and the Nero ASPI?

Adaptec's ASPI will probably work with Nero too if you want to uninstall Nero's ASPI as it is considered Win's default ASPI and I think Nero looks for installed ASPI and only installs its own if none is already present.

ISn't that the DVD that won't play in computer dvd players? Remember something about a DVD that would only play in a set top player.
