Dear Gavin:

Thank you for your inquiry.

First of all, please verify the following before recording any CDs or DVDs
1. Copy a data file (excel file, text file) to the disc. Then read the data file from the disc. If it works, then the DVD writer & enclosure are working properly.
2. Most DVD-Videos are in different formats and are copy protected. Please follow below links for more information.

Normally, if the DVD writer can format a DVDrw disc, then the overall configuration should be working.

Subject: External 5.25" USB2.0 Enclosure SD-525U2ENC (Myson version)

Dear Sirs,
I just received my enclosure from Acortec and I have installed my Memorex Dual Format X-1 DVD writer.

The enclosure and drive are recognized (and installed) by Windows XP Pro on my Emachines M6810 notebook.
(Enhanced USB support is enabled with SP1 installed)

I can read CDs and DVDs and actually format disks.

I cannot actually record anything though? (Using Nero6, Roxio DVD Creator or NTI 6)

This appears to be a very common issue with external enclosures and DVD writers (which I was not aware of previously).

What do you recommend trying to get the drive to work?

Regards

Gavin

I could not get it to work, BUT, I put in my Pioneer 108 and it worked(only through USB not firewire). So the NEC 3500ag is my new internal and my pioneer is my external.

I just got home and hooked up my external drive using a USB 1.0 hub - guess what?

It works!

The drive that I am using is a Memorex but this is actually a Pioneer 106D.

Now I'm going to try installing some drivers for the USB 2.0 that came on the supplied disk. Not sure how that will work out though
