I can feel the flames headed my way but I'm thick skinned and kinda thick headed but I need to know, searched for "firmware" did not find anything related ,read articles at videohelp so flame away-bought a NEC 3500 (thanks guys for the recommendation) plan to use clonedvd/anydvd do I still need to download the latest firmware 2.18 first and then install Anydvd/clonedvd? By flashing is it meant that you open the file or run the setup? Any repleies to enlighten me are greatly appreciated and yes I'm staying on the porch for right now and just watch ya big dogs run.

Flashing/firmware refers to "fooling" the drive into thinking its something better than it is. You should (SHOULD, don't know because I wasn't in on the advice earlier) be able to just flat-out install it and have it work just fine. If you want to upgrade the specs on it you could flash the firmware, but it shouldn't be necessary. CDfreaks.com forums would have your answers as to where to get said firmware and flashing utilities.
