NEC-2510A DVD+-RW writes but won't read +R disks

I have an external DVD+-RW drive that turns out to be a NEC DVD+-RW (ND-2510A) drive. I can write to DVD+R disks (PENGO brand) but can't read them on the same drive... Well actually I can read about half the disk. I can read and write DVD-R and DVD+RW disks with no trouble. Any help would be appreciated.

Two things I would consider:

(1) Try using different DVD+R media. I've not heard of PENGO media....is this high quality media or cheap generic?

(2) Try burning the PENGO media at a lower speed...ie, don't burn the media at its highest rated speed and see if that makes a difference.
