i have a nec 2500A flashed to a nec 2510A, and almost every time i try to burn a dvd with nero it always gives me a "calibration error", i keep pressing burnagain and eventually it will burn fine... what does this error mean? and is there a way to fix it?

i changed the ide cable it was using and i reflashed the firmware just in case....i'm currently using RITEKG05 dvd-r's i currently dont have any other brand media to use....any suggestions?

calibration error typically means that there is something going on with the laser. When that happens, more often than not the drive is going bad. It probably will have no trouble reading but the writing laser circuitry is fubar

Hi, Calibration is how a Hard Drive or Disk reader finds the first track on the disk. All others are located from there. If it can't find a track because of bad reads or bad tracks it recalibrates the heads. That is, it slams the head mechanisn against a "Brick Wall" that tells it it is at track zero. Then it trys again. That's the 1 to 2 clicks per second when a Hard Drive goes bad and can't read. There is a lot more to it than this, but maybe this will help someone.

Good Luck, Jim

possibly, trying different media would be the cheapest route to find out. And if it isn't the media well you'll need more discs eventually anyway so you really wouldn't be out anything
