NEC 2500A--region free?

I tried a region 1 and a region 3 and they both worked fine. Did I get one that was region free or am I going to have to specify one somewhere down the road? Thanks in advance.
 
Hmm.. my friend just got the 2500A, and his was region free.

I also overheard a sales rep saying that all of the newer 8X dvd writers were region-free...

Yup, I have one and it was indeed region locked (RPC2) I had to use a firmware hack to get it region free.
