Hi there! I`ve recently set up my new system...
Here it goes:
AMD 64 3000+
Gigabyte GA-NNXP (N-Force 3 150)
512MB RAM PC3200 Kingstone
WD 120GB SATA
NEC 2500A DVD-RW
TNT2 M64(!!!)

I`ve installed Windows XP Pro Service Pack1 and everything seemed to be ok (I`ve even installed the Silicon Image SATA(base) Controllers without a problem!)
Suddenly i tried to open a cd-rom with a video file and Windows freezed, then crashed and got to Safe mode asking me to save any data and reboot due to a "device failure"Text. Isuppose it must be the DVD-RWs` fault because i tried again with other cd-roms and it kept freezing and "safemode-ing!"
I must say that when i get to internet or open files to my HDD there is absolutely no problem. But when i try to open a file on my cd-rom it crashes. The NEC is connected to Primary master IDE and the Jumper settings are set ok!
I`ve tried to change IDE or switch the device to Slave but no results came over...
I`m despared. Please if anyone can help me somehow i`ll be gratefull...

Greetings from GREECE

I occasionally have the same problem with my NEC 2510. While I haven't fixed it, or for that matter really looked into it yet, I'm going to google for firmware fixes/updates as a starting point.
