Just picked up one of these drives on NewEgg because people have been raving about them. I've burned one DVD so far and it seems to work great.

Of course, my first instinct as an engineer is that if it's not broken, it doesn't have enough features yet. So I went to look for a firmware update. Did a search for everything "NEC" in this forum and did a search on their website, but no luck - any one know if there's a firmware update available and where to get it?

What version firmware did yours come with? I just got mine and it has 1.06. Been trying to get into the site Sid linked here but always get "This page cannot be displayed". Did you ever get in?

Yup, the forums seem to be either down or extremely busy now, just wait a bit I guess.

A.) Use nero Infotool
B.) If you dont know what bitsetting is, you probably dont need it. Older DVD burners can only read DVD+R/W discs if you set a bit at the beginning of the disc to say it is a DVD-ROM. Bitsetting just lets you do this manually.

Kris,

How does one do this manually? I'm using Nero to burn is it possible? I love my 2500A, but my DVD Player doesn't like +r/w

Can you point me to a guide or something?

TSDible,

I think you need a whole new firmware. A little bird told me some german guy figured it out:

http://herrie.rpc1.org/downloads/2k5bit.rar

Although i havent tried it- it might just rip your burner apart. I think once you run the firmware update and reboot, when you burn in nero on the "burn" screen it will have a checkbox for DVD-R or DVD-ROM

Hope that helps.
