NEC 24WMGX2

bigboxes

I just got a NEC 20WMGX2 widescreen monitor a week ago and simply love it. It's an IPS panel and from what I've read (on AT and elsewhere) that mfg are only making them for professionals as consumers only want big and cheap. Well, I don't mind paying a little extra for something noticably better. My question, is NEC going to make a 24" model or not? I would sure like to upgrade to a bigger screen as long as it's the same qual as this one.

I dunno, even though NEC markets some of its larger monitors with high response times (the 2690wuxi as 6.5ms I believe) it only achieves roughly 30ms or half that of the 20WMGX2.

I dunno, I had the impression that the 2490wuxi was similar to the 2690 in response time, so you are probably looking at around 30ms as well. I personally wouldn't want a monitor that big with that kind of insane overdrive, the investment is big and anything that increases pixel failure I'd rather take a little ghosting.

Neither are close to the price of the 20WMGX2 though, they are both in the 1K+ range. I just ordered a 2690wuxi for around $1300. Tried a 2190uxi but that was too small for my tastes, and it costed about 1K too, so I figured I might as well upgrade.

As far as image quality I am under the impression that the *uxi* series are better than the WMGX2, since one is aimed at graphics artists and the other aimed at gamers.

the rest of the gx2 line uses TN panels.

i'd say the days of the 20wmgx2 type monitors are dead as its too small a market. i wish it wasnt so, but even a 24" would be a PVA panel. I too would love to pay extra for a really good monitor as some of the budget stuff out there is pure garbage but its what joe everyon ewants.

i dont even need the fastest computer on earth, mine is not particularly fast, but i'm staring at a monitor all day, i want that to be nice. I do have a 20wmgx2 and got it about 2 months after it came out (for $600 ... and it was worth it too eventhough its about $360 with rebates now at newegg).

still an awesome panel and i like that it has the glossy coating. there is a similar HP pavilion monitor which is 24" and i think is a mva panel with glossy coat, so i guess thats an alternative. they really need to make say a 24" version or 23 or even a 22" (with 1920x1200 res like the new lenovo panel), with the glossy coating, and component , hdmi and a qam / atsc tuner (the 20wmgx has an analog which will be useless soon)
