after a week of tweaking i have come to the conclusion that the default settings of 50 contrast and 100 brightness with native color, shows the best color gradation for me, but there is still a large amount of it going on. The question is; am I really picky? or is this totally normal? Im doing motion graphic work, so eventually I will probably end up going insane if it stays this way.

the website i checked the gradation on is www.zugara.com

Is this totally normal?

here is my black to white:

You took screenshots so people with different LCDs won't be able to tell what you mean.

But, yes, due to this display's high contrast, there will be lots of gradation. It is not a defect (it is exactly what your graphics card outputs). You should use 'standard' DV mode for minimal banding. The other DV modes may introduce more fake "enhancement" banding.

I personally recommend a 50% brightness setting, 51% contrast setting, standard mode, Advanced DV mode on. XT has his setup in a far more exacting way but I find these settings to be good 'nough.

are there any other lcd's that wouldnt do this that dont cost $1k+ ?

EDIT: Is it even a possibility that i could have damaged the color gradients by tweaking the brightness and contrast levels?

What sharpness setting did you find works best? Some text looks weird to me and I think it is sharpness setting.

I am not sure if I like Advanced DV Mode. It flashes some when I go from some applications to others. It is distracting and I am worried it could cause metal fatigue and make the back light not last as long. Opinions?

I like it for games (on a 90GX2) but don't use it in other programs. As you said, it just gets distracting. I doubt it has any effect on the lifetime of the backlight though.

As xtknight has said, those pictures are useless

A print screen will not show the banding on peoples monitors that have no banding

Use a camera to take the pictures

Edit:

You need a better image to work from as well as the website has slight banding on my monitor (which doesnt band normally) (maybe image compression)

I did have some images off the dell site from a topic about the 2407 banding but the host is down
