Nec-1300a 1.06 Firmware/rip question

My nec1300a has the 1.06 firmware and i have Memorex (ricoh) +r's here. Ive been backing up dvds and they read disc error on my dvd player but read finein my xbox so i guess there good, but sometimes when i test with powerdvd and skip ahead in a film it freezes and i get the disc may be damaged or scratched. What the deal. If i restart the dvd though it will work usually. I have also head not to upgrade the 1.06 firmware


Ripping: I use smartripper and average around 3.0-3.5 is this normal

if the problem exists, you can try the newest OFFICIAL firmware.


i haven't had a problem with my NEC1300A with the 1.06 fireware. all dvd+- R (data and video) play fine on other rigs, xbox and multiple standalone dvd players.


also add ... Power DVD seems to suck. it always errors on me. wmp plays them fine./

Yep same. WMP plays fine powerdvd errors. Atleast i know now its powerdvd and not the dvd it self. My dvd player must just not play burned ricoh dvds

that's the firmware that shipped with the drive. i don't understand.

thta firmware came with the drive. Thats what nero says my firware is. Why dont u understand?

have you tried Herrie's hacked firmware? I use 107v4 but 108v2 is out now. It adds some additional media types and removes the 2x rip limit.

also, it WILL void your warranty, but IMO Herrie is about the most experienced 1300A user accessible by me, so I'm going do what he does.

PS. flashing is DOS is supposed to be safer tahn Windose

I don't understand why some of the OTHER NEC sites carry firmware updates but the U.S. site doesn't. That link above is from Germany.

ahh you were saying .. DON"T UPGRADE FROM 1.06 .. i thought you said .. DON"T UPGRADE TO 1.06
