Never really thought much about it, but ship hauls do flex quite a bit from the waves. This video shows it:

That's pretty crazy, but it has to, if it was too rigid the welds would be taking all the force and eventually break, and then the front would fall off.

reminds me of being on one of the upper floors of skyscraper that flexes in the wind...my old company had floor space on the 42nd floor of a building that swayed when it was windy which made my knees a bit wobbly whenever I had to visit...
