Neat Dell trick for LCD Screens

Went through Tech Support to authorize warranty work, and as we were stepping through things I learned a neat trick. If you're trying to figure out whether the LCD is dead, try this:

1) Remove the battery
2) Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds
3) Plug in the A/C power adapter to your laptop
4) Power on the laptop
5) Press D+Fn as the laptop is booting in the BIOS (Within about two seconds of hitting the power button)
6) The screen should flash several colors, allowing you to look for dead pixels and a dead screen

Thanks to Indian tech support for this useful trick.

Or you do it the simple way and just hold "D" and then press power 😉

haha I suppose you could do it that way if that works, I was just going off what the tech said. Also, this was for an M1330 which has a pretty through warranty. A Dell Technician is supposed to be visiting in a couple days to fix it.

I have dell inspiron 1464 I hope it works.
will also try it in the office with dell latitude d630

thanks for the nice tip.
