I hate to be the one linking to snopes, but there it is.

Despite what snopes says, this is very common in cities with active gangs. Reel is extremely lucky that he is alive now, as many gang members are ruthless and would have killed him, his friend, his family and his friend's family. Possibly, if they're feeling advantageous, they would kill his dog too.

Don't forget about the extended family. They go after Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and In-laws next...in that order.

and neighbors, friends, co-workers... plus his online buddies, your friend saved us!

Then it's acquaintances, people you've only met once, dogs you've petted, cats you've petted, and other misc. animals you've been near.

don't forget the 2nd grade teacher and her pets too!

do we really think that there is a 100% chance that it was a gang member? i'd doubt it. i see people (read: i've been in cars with friends) who drive with their headlights off until it is brought to their attention that they had forgotten to turn them on. i'd say if this urban legend is true, there's a good 1% chance that you'd have encountered a gang member.

OP, if this is your one single near-death experience, i hope you never have to encounter anything more serious than this.

This is about as close to a near death experience as being scratched by a playful kitten.

The OP is either a huge moron or he's just messing around.

Well, sure. They start at preschool and go up through every grade. Savages, all of 'em!

So, my friend and I had a craving for some late night ice cream. As we were coming home on one of the roads, I noticed a car without their headlights on. I pointed it out to my friend and I said something about flashing my lights at them. He quickly stopped me and knocked my hand away from the light control switch. He said that it was a gang initiation and if I had flashed my lights they would have chased us down and killed us. I didn't realize just how dangerous such common gestures could be. I am glad that my friend was with me or I would probably be in the obits once they found my body.

did you just fall out of the stupid tree?

yeah and in my dorm's basement a student hung themself... I'm sure it only happened at my school too!

I can't believe everyone fell for it myself. Nice one, Reel.

 Sorry. Finals week for my summer classes. I was a bit loopy after spending the day in front of the computer reviewing material.
