Near Death Experience

Reel

Diamond Member
So, my friend and I had a craving for some late night ice cream. As we were coming home on one of the roads, I noticed a car without their headlights on. I pointed it out to my friend and I said something about flashing my lights at them. He quickly stopped me and knocked my hand away from the light control switch. He said that it was a gang initiation and if I had flashed my lights they would have chased us down and killed us. I didn't realize just how dangerous such common gestures could be. I am glad that my friend was with me or I would probably be in the obits once they found my body.

Bangin in little rock.

Sampson told me about being chased for that one time. Luckily, they saw the rainbow sticker on his bumper and stopped following.

I think the car was just rushing to the vet with the cute little dog they brought home from their mexican vacation.

Ordinarily, I might be really upset at your insensitive remarks. Believe what you want but right now I am just happy to be alive.

I hate to be the one linking to snopes, but there it is.

Despite what snopes says, this is very common in cities with active gangs. Reel is extremely lucky that he is alive now, as many gang members are ruthless and would have killed him, his friend, his family and his friend's family. Possibly, if they're feeling advantageous, they would kill his dog too.

Don't forget about the extended family. They go after Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and In-laws next...in that order.

Then it's acquaintances, people you've only met once, dogs you've petted, cats you've petted, and other misc. animals you've been near.

Rike, you can post all the links you want. In fact, go out later tonight and take your buddy Allio with you. Maybe you two can find some gang members driving without their lights on and we'll read about you on cnn.com tomorrow. Maybe I can make a web page saying that The Matrix wasn't just a movie but the reality. Would that make it true? Some people are just too willing to believe everything they read. Look at the post above yours. He is a respected police officer. I am sure he has had the misfortune of scraping up pieces of some poor guy who didn't have the benefit of my friend sitting next to them in their car. I, for one, owe my buddy my life. However, I encourage you to flash your lights at every car you see from now on. Be sure to post your results in a few years if you are still alive.

Nah, they won't get that far, they have to kill themselves first.

Sure, they off themselves right after the "only met once..." but it's their ghosts that come back to take care of the rest. Those gang members...they'll getcha. That's what they do.

From the above link:
John Moore, senior research associate at the National Youth Gang Center based in Tallahassee, confirmed that, to the best of his knowledge, the "Lights Out" legend is false: "I know of no incident in the country where this type of thing occurred," he told the Washington Post. "This is one of the wonders of the Internet, that you can take something that has no basis in fact and make people believe it."

Nevertheless, probably because they fear the possibility of copycat outbreaks, some law enforcement agencies still recommend that motorists play it safe and refrain from flashing their headlights when driving in areas where gang activities occur.

The point? It's why more than a few people are having a little fun with your Near Death Experience title. When I clicked on your thread the first time I thought maybe someone got in a serious accident and might have a friend in the hospital. My mistake, I forgot where I was.

Who's having fun with him? This is no joking matter. Reel could have been killed last night, it's a good thing his friend had the foresight he did and warned Reel of the dangers of flashing his headlights to another car when they were in a gang-infested zone.
