Ne1 use Nero "Express"?

Hey all. Got a new CDR drive recently, and it came with a CD of "Nero Express." I've used Nero in the past and liked it very much, so I thought I'd give it a try, 'specially being free and all :)

Anyhoo, I install. It doesn't seem to recognize the CDR drive. I know I've got it installed and working correctly as I can burn CD's using Windows Explorer. Instead, Nero wants to "write" to an "Image Recorder." Basically, it just seems to be writing an image file to the hard drive.

Weird. Am I doing something wrong here, or is this all that Nero Express is supposed to do?

And while we're on the topic, about what is the best free CD burning software out there now?

thanks!

I have used Nero Express to burn audio cds, and no problems. Maybe there is an option somewhere that is set wrong.

This looks like a pretty good piece of cd burning software.

Not if the drive came only with a Nero Express OEM license/key. I assume this costs a couple bucks less to the drive manufacturer. IMO the Nero 5.x UI is a mess, so I recommend the Express product for most people. Most times, they just don't need the power of Nero Burning ROM.

The original problem can be one of two things:
  1. You're trying to use a Nero OEM bundled version from one retail kit with a different brand drive. Some license keys will only work with a certain brand of drive. Edit: Actually, in this case, the hardware would be detected, but not available as a burner under Nero.
  2. You're trying to use Nero as a non-Administrator user, which does not have sufficient access rights to the CD-RW hardware (under Windows NT/2K/XP).
An error message may popup to explain the second case.

I posted a similar question a month or two ago, with little resolution (besides trial & error).

When I use Nero Express on continious music such as a mixed DJ cd, there is a small gap of sound between tracks, even if I click on the "no pause between tracks" button.

This is only a 1/10th of a second or so, but is still a glithc that shouldn't occur.

Anyone have a solution?

BTW, can I upgrade bundled my version to the latest bundled, or is this the version i get forever?

Sounds like the default recorder is set to Nero's Image Recorder. Go into preferences and change the recorder to your CD recorder.

I've actually tried that. Even under preferences, there doesn't seem to be any option other than "Image Recorder." It's as if my CD-R drive just isn't there. But as I said, I know it works as I've burned CD's using the built-in Windows Explorer.

Anyway, I've found a copy of Nero Ultimate Edition. Gonna install that and give it a try.

Thanks!
