I'm flirting with the idea of using my sata headers on my mobo to raid my 2 maxtor pATA 200GB disk drives. Anyone ever use those adapter thingies you can get from newegg for $16?

I'm not sure why I would ever need to do such a thing other than to say I did, but I find it interresting none-the-less. Is there any benefits from it? I'm not worried about loosing data, just want the performance.

My mobo has a single pATA header for RAID (Promise 20579 Onboard) so I guess I could use that as an alternative. Reasons for one or the other? Reasons to do it at all? Just wondering. Thanks.

no performance benefits whatsoever. you can make your case a little neater by using sata cables though.
