As ready as I can be. Snow blower is all tested, oil checked, tires checked, gassed up and I have an extra 5 Gals of gas ready. Food stocks are enough for now. I just hope we do not get any power outages.

That forecast is just a guess. These people that get paid to tell us what the weather is going to be like typically can't guess accurately what's going to happen tomorrow and sometimes they miss the afternoon forecast that same morning.

You will get snow - probably.

Bring it on.

I got a dozen cans of tuna fish, 5 dozen raw eggs, 2 handles of vodka, and a quarter tank of gas in my car to last me through the acocalypse.

I thought they were telling people in the NYC area to stay home today.

It's not supposed to be bad until late afternoon/tonight. We already got an office-wide email that we're closed tomorrow. I'll probably hop out around 2 or so today. Needed to get some shit done this morning unfortunately.... :(

I sure as hell am.

the train I take to work is underground for half the trip but outside for the other half... they've been known to have to shutdown the above-ground tracks in really bad weather, and there's no way I'm going to risk getting stuck at work.

I'm working in Jersey City today. Getting out of here 1pm at the leanest before the real shite hits the fan.

Local schools closed in south central PA but we didn't really get very much snow. I'm hoping some more comes in today/tonight but it doesn't look like we'll get much more I think.

It's snowy and windy out here in NYC. Watch out for residual ice from the last storm if you're walking around. I just took a tumble in the driveway between my apartment and the next one. But except what will probably turn into a bruise on my cheek, I seem to be in one piece...

I'm sure. It's quite scary when you're going down. I'm only 27 and sure of foot usually. I think I better understand my dad's fear of ice (he walks with a cane and has some issues walking a lot and balance).

I know what you mean. A few years ago, I'm walking on the sidewalk thinking everything's fine and then my feet just went completely out from underneath me. I heard some mocking laughs from a car driving by filled with what I assume were teenage punks. A bruised back and ego were all I really suffered.

Sun is out here in Boston. Not supposed to start snowing until later this afternoon and the real stuff arrives early this evening.

I can't believe how overhyped this storm already is. We're going to get a lot snow and it's fairly big, but It's a classic Nor'Easter. It's not expected to be as bad as the Blizzard of 78, or 2003, or the April Fools Day blizzard of 97. "Historic" is something it probably will not be.

I agree with this though my POV might be skewed a bit. Going from Syracuse to Long Island I have to laugh. You would think the world is ending down here. The news this morning covered "BREAKING NEWS!" about how there is no bread or milk left at local grocery stores. I was just at the Dr's office - they're closing early today and already closed for tomorrow. The number of whiteout storms I drove through in Syracuse to get my ass to work is more than I can count on two hands in the 4 years I was there. Laughable really.

Storms are considered to be "bigger" during the week vs on a weekend.

Also, coming off of the January thaw, generates a mental comparison/exaggeration :\

lol

These predictions aren't driven by people. These are made by computers, multiple computers, dozens of distinct computer forecast models that tend to disagree in small measurements by often wildly agree on major trends.

The little things, like will you get spotty sprinkles or soaking showers, those are difficult because the worlds climate computers are not tackling those, lesser systems are. And those local-scale weather patterns can be very accurate or too fine a detail to really pinpoint, as most such patterns are not exceptional storms that are well-formed, rather, just sort of something that bubbled up. The jet stream is such a major factor that local computers and the meteorologists driving them may struggle.

FWIW, we have a local crew with a phenomenal forecaster.

To be honest I'm tired of hearing about this storm. The coverage on this storm has been on all day.

You have to wonder what has happened to us. Have we become wussies? Imagine showing those pics to someone from the past.

What would they say?

weathermen are so fucking wrong all the time, the profession is such a fucking joke.

i'm not in NE, i'm in MD, but this whole weekend they were wrong.

they were calling for snow friday night. i went to see a movie and all that happened was a little bit of rain. it was like 45 degrees, not even close to snow weather.

then i heard last week it was supposed to snow sunday night. last night it was again like 45 degrees, it was like 50 during the day and nice outside.

last night i'm watching the news, and they say the snow won't start until like 5pm today. of course, i wake up to snow on the ground.

completely worthless. i just do not understand how technology in this field has gotten significantly worse than it was 15-20 years ago when i was in school. they could predict it perfectly back then.
