Looking to shoot video at this exposure during a sunny mid-day. Based on the sunny 16 rule my calculations say I'll need a 8 stop filter?

16--->11 8 5.6 4 = 4 stops
1/800---> 1/400 1/200 1/100 1/50 = 4 stops

And for f/1.4 that's going to be 11 stops?

Yea NDs are pretty much a must for shooting video during the day with any trace of shallow DOF. I'd recommend a variable one that lets you dial it in.

Sorry if I worded my question so poorly but what I meant to ask was if it's a 8 stop filter I'll need to achieve that exposure.

A variable ND is still the best way to go. Something like a 1.5 - 9 stop range is great for adapting to varying light scenarios.
