I am needing a fast, quiet and cool sata hdd for my new AMD 64 gaming system. I'm not a space whore so I can get by on 80-120gb. I was reading about the raptor but they seem a little overly pricey for the small benchmark advantage they show.

Then I read about NCQ and am wondering if this is only supported on Intel systems or if it can be used in conjuction with an AMD board? Is there any advantage to getting an hdd that supports NCQ if I'm running an AMD system or will the hdd just disable that feature (Im not into paying more for nothing).

Also, do most new drives use fluid bearings? How is this an advantage?

So, what models/brands hdd would you guys suggest?

i dont know much about the NCQ that your talking about, but the raptors are much faster than just a standard sata drive. my friend has one and he loads programs much faster than my roomates 7200 8mb sata drive. Dunno if you are into gaming or such, but bootup times are extremely fast, and maps load like 10 seconds faster on his system (dunno if that makes a difference to you). anyways just thought id give my .02 about the raptors before you brush them off. I think newegg still has the 25 mir on the 74 gig, final price i paid for mine was 153. now just waitin on the neo2plat to be back in stock so i can use it :D

Thanks for the info. If it can load Farcry and Doom3 levels faster I might have to give them a second look.
