Aww, that's a bummer. I've ordered a good number of parts from them. Seems Newegg and Amazon get the majority of my business, though. Could just be that they've been squeezed out.

Oh that blows. What else is even left as far as Canadian computer part stores? There was basically NCIX and Tigerdirect.

I've ordered from Newegg but I much prefer to buy from Canada. Sucks that retail suffers so much here. Globalization is a terrible thing.

But it's Canuckistan...with only 6 computer literate people in all the provinces, do you really expect businesses to cater to you? :D

I disagree on Globalization, not even sure if foreign competition drove them out of business. Could have been just bad management.

Pretty much this.
NCIX was just badly mismanaged.
I know of people that placed orders with them, and they would string them along for weeks, then they try to cancel, and it took up to 30 days to finally get a refund.

Didn't Newegg start selling to Canada? You have Amazon, right? Did Best Buy close Futureshop or whatever their Canadian version was?

Without globalization you would likely have difficulty buying those computer parts in the first place, so not sure why you're saying that.

Compared to whom? Australian's would love Canadian pricing.
It boils down to...
Rules and regulations
Altering products to comply with the rules of regulatory bodies such as the Canadian Standards Association or Health Canada can add to product costs. The Electro-Federation Canada, estimates compliance costs can add up to 10% to gadget prices.

Taxes and tariffs
Import tariffs are the most variable factors in the price gap: some products are free to enter the country, while others are subject to massive government taxes. Sometimes the tax is artificially high to protect domestic industry; many are just revenue-generators for government.

Economics
Sometimes the price difference really is pure economics: Canada is a sprawling country with a small population, which means higher costs for shipping, storage, distribution and economies of scale. And, of course, retailers can charge more simply because there’s less competition up here, so we have no choice but to pay up.

I always forget about them actually, I always figured it was a way smaller retailer but they do appear to have quite a lot too. Just checked them out now. Their search sucks though. Takes about 2 minutes. But if you're just browsing it's not as bad. They need to optimize their database.

Amazon yes but not sure about Newegg. For example Newegg has the 7900X for $1209 and free shipping while Canada Computers sells it for $1229 with free shipping only to Ont and PQ. CC sells the ASUS MG 278Q for $789 while NE sells it for $669. OTOH NE has the 850 Evo 500GB for $214 while CC sells it at $209.

I use CC and never NE since I live in TO and try to support local.Buying the MG 278Q would test my loyalty for sure. But then returns are a cinch and delivery is just picking it up myself so ....

I am rarely in a hurry so I buy in US, ship to my buddy's place and he brings it over every two weeks.

Does he get hit with customs doing that? I've done orders through US retailers a few times but it's really hit and miss whether or not there is customs and the amount but I imagine an individual person just driving through may be safe. I got hit with $600+ customs once. Thankfully it was for the church so they paid it, but still felt bad going up to them with that bill months later. I actually got it in the mail separately. Often times it's COD but this particular one was not.

I get that they want to encourage people to buy within Canada, but actually making more stuff available here would be a start.

RIP NCIX. Although to be honest i sourced my last PC from a wide variety of stores. NCIX much like anandtech was much better a decade ago than today, NCIX has been going downhill and has been poorly managed for the past several years, i saw this coming.
