Ugh. I hate it when sports leagues see that the racial distribution of players and coaches don't match and claim racism.
Duh... they require different skillsets, so why should the racial breakdown be the same? Maybe the coach breakdown is the same as the distribution of football fands or football minds.
If we can admit that one ethnic group is genetically better at playing a sport, why can't we admit that another might be genetically better at coaching it? Or equal, such that it's more representative of the general population? Just hypothetically...
I completely agree. What is it, 70% of Americans are white but that is certainly far from the ratio when it comes to sports such as football when it comes to players - the coaches aren't racist for "favoring" black players when drafting/recruiting, but the owners are racist for hiring white coaches?
That's exactly my thinking.
Yes, there still is some discrimination, but for the most part, if you're qualified enough, you'll probably get the coaching job. Can a school help it that a majority of the most qualified coaches are white? I think it would be an even bigger slap in the face to blacks if a school hired a black coach just for the sake of hiring a black coach.
Also, I think the fact that teams in the NFL must interview one minority candidate for a head coaching job. Why? Chances are, teams know who they're going after, whether it's a black coach, asian coach, white coach, or any other coach. Interviewing a minority candidate doesn't do any good for anyone. It wastes the team's time and the minority candidates time (especially if they were brought in for the sole purpose of filling that requirement).
But then again, I think AA as a whole is seriously flawed.
